AUTUMN FAIR AND RALLY.  WILTON PARK ~ BATLEY.

4th September 2005.

This may have been our club Autumn Rally, but it was far from autumn weather our sunny summer continued throughout the day to make it once again the success it certainly was. 116 pre entries turned up and as many as 40 late entries came along as the day progressed. It would make life a lot easier for the hard working committee members if they did book in before the day as it becomes a bit of a headache where to fit everyone in such a confined area as the tennis courts. However getting that of my chest this is a superb venue to hold our Club Rally.

We had a wonderful display of vehicles with Granada Appreciation Society (Yorkshire) and Ford Capri Club facing the Bowling Green. On the tennis courts were a main selection of cars with just about every make and year from vintage up to modern classics.  Sports cars saloons an ambulance, Austin Gypsy, a superb selection of American sedan and convertibles as long as the lake itself and three VW Camper vans made for a colourful display. The motorcycle club made a good addition to the day also.

On my walkabouts I try to meet new and interesting people and this day was no exception.  I was talking to a guy Mr Phillip Miller from Lewis in East Sussex who set off from home the day before in his White 1964 Hillman Minx Series (5) only to find the M11 blocked with an accident, with the temperature gauge heading for the red he decided he'd better pull off and found B&B in Cambridge.

Setting off the next morning for our event in Batley, and after the show going on to York and the North Yorkshire Moors. I think he deserved a special award for dedication and perseverance.

The cake stands raffle and tom bolo did well and Marion, Sharon, Ted and all the other helpers deserve a big thanks. Tony Green, Glyn, Bill, Terry and Roland stuck to their posts as marshals and ensured the day went off well for everyone.

I think most stallholders did trade and we were entertained all afternoon by a troupe of Majorettes and the Post Box Hillbilly Band. Norman stood by his post at the main gates letting in the rich and famous and keeping out the riffraff until he became dehydrated and had to give up, walk on all fours back to the main event for liquid refreshment.

Howard was the perfect PR man keeping everyone up to date on the mega mike and after the raffle prizes were all claimed, and the presentation of the trophies given out. I would like to say on behalf of the Club and Committee congratulations to the winners, but most of all to everyone who took part to make this a very successful rally.
